Atlantic Sun, Patriot, and Horizon League Tip off Results

Unless you watched ESPN 3 on your phone, tablet, computer, or Xbox, you did not actually get to watch these games, so below is our first summary of the tournament and how it impacted the standings.

While only the lower seeded Patriot and Horizon League teams played today, the entire Atlantic Sun was in action so we were all at risk.  Remember that these first few days are all about trying to avoid losses!
  • In the Atlantic Sun all the favorites won and moved on:  North Florida, FGCU, and USC Upstate
    • With Jacksonville losing to FGCU, we had our first loss in the pool
  • In the Horizon League, the UIC Flames overcame a 19 point halftime deficit and beat Wright State, this is important because Doug has UIC winning the tournament and avoided a loss
    • With Youngstown State losing to Detroit, we had another loss in the pool
  • In the Patriot League, Loyola MD lost to Holy Cross, giving Rabitoy his 3rd loss for the night, dropping him to last place
I am glad to see the Kennesaw State Owl was the first team to be eliminated from the tournament, I hate that thing.

Click the link below for the full spreadsheet so you can see the movement in the standings, with Rabitoy's losses everyone moved up 1 spot, except for Doug who held 1st place.

Current Standings

Tomorrow brings 4 more conferences tipping off, in addition to the Atlantic Sun, Patriot, and Horizon League conference tournaments continuing.  Below is the summary in order of conference tip off time (Games start at 11:00 AM Central Time).

Big South

  • Things get started early tomorrow when 3 Big South games tip off tomorrow morning/afternoon
  • Doug and Amanda are both on Gardner-Webb, who is favored to beat Campbell by 6, while Rabitoy is the only one on UNC Asheville, favored to win by 9

America East

  • The entire America East conference will be in play on Wednesday, so again we are all at risk to lose our picks
  • Doug and Safka are on Hartford, while B.I. is on New Hampshire, so this guarantees someone will have a loss from this game (New Hampshire is favored to win by 7.5)
  • For the rest of us, Albany, Vermont, and Stony Brook are all favored to win by double digits which means we're likely safe from more losses in this conference

Northeast

  • Again, all of us are in play for a potential loss since this entire conference plays tomorrow
  • Robert Morris is favored to beat Wagner, which means either Doug will have a loss with Wagner or Galpin, Ron, and Rachel will have a loss with Robert Morris
  • 56% of us have St. Francis NY, so we're pretty safe with that pick

Ohio Valley

  • Only the bottom 4 seeds are playing tomorrow, however we still have someone with a team at risk since Doug is on Eastern Illinois

As always, enjoy the games and good luck!
